Who lives in a pineapple under the sea? Find out the answer to that age-old nautical question when Nickelodeon’s long-running animated children’s show comes to life in Tidewater Player’s county premiere of The SpongeBob Musical. The stakes are higher than ever in this innovative stage musical, as SpongeBob (Tyler White of Baltimore), Squidward (Rob Tucker of Belcamp), Patrick (Bobby Mahoney of Belcamp), Sandy (Lindsey Rosser of Bel Air), Plankton (Eyvo Johnson of Aberdeen), Mr. Krabbs (Matthew Peterson of Northeast), and all the familiar denizens of Bikini Bottom face the total annihilation of their undersea world. Chaos erupts. Lives hang in the balance. And just when all hope seems lost, a most unexpected and optimistic hero rises up and takes center stage. Told with a score from the biggest names in pop music, The Spongebob Musical is a guaranteed fun time for the whole family.

One of the first community theatre shows out of the gate following the COVID-19 pandemic, this fresh new musical is based on the Nickelodeon animated television series "SpongeBob SquarePants." It made its word premiere in June of 2016 in Chicago and opened on Broadway in December of 2017. The show opened to critical acclaim, and with twelve Tony Award nominations, it tied for the most-nominated production at the 72nd Tony Awards in 2018.

The SpongeBob Musical is based on the beloved animated series created by Stephen Hillenburg and features a book by Kyle Jarrow, with original songs by Yolanda Adams, Steven Tyler and Joe Perry of Aerosmith, Sara Bareilles, Jonathan Coulton, Alexander Ebert of Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros, The Flaming Lips, Lady A, Cyndi Lauper, John Legend, Panic! At the Disco, Plain White T’s, They Might Be Giants and T.I., and songs by David Bowie, Tom Kenny and Andy Paley. Additional lyrics are by Jonathan Coulton, with additional music by Tom Kitt.
