From the thundering hoofbeats of the steeplechase races, to the larger-than-life topiaries…the sights and sounds of the season are waiting to be experienced. Make your spring outing memorable with the following suggestions.
Visit Ladew Topiary Gardens
As the earth awakens and flowers bloom, make your way to Ladew Topiary Gardens, located in the Maryland countryside just twenty miles north of Baltimore. Designed and developed by Harvey S. Ladew, the world-renowned gardens include over 100 topiaries on 22 acres and the historic Manor House has fox hunting memorabilia and antiques. Their butterfly house offers an up-close view of the habitat and life cycle of native butterflies and caterpillars. Bring your family, friends or a date to explore the nature walk and dine at the cafe.
Attend an Ironbirds Game at Ripken Stadium
Ripken Stadium is home to the Aberdeen IronBirds - a Minor League Baseball team based in the city of Aberdeen in Harford County. 2022 is the IronBirds 20th season and their promotional schedule is packed with fireworks nights, crab feasts, dogs at the park, craft brew bash and so much more. 5-game flex packs are on sale now. Get your tickets at 22% off with code VISITHC at checkout. Watching the Ironbirds is a great family outing, date night or going out with friends! Play ball!
Experience My Lady’s Manor Steeplechase Races
Steeplechase races over timber is a Maryland tradition that goes back some 100-plus years. The Monkton countryside is a beautiful setting for the My Lady’s Manor Steeplechase Races. Come prepared for plenty of tailgating, live bluegrass music, food trucks, and horse-powered thrills. “The Mini Manor” will also be a fun sight when aspiring young jockeys and their ponies race down the homestretch.
